Now, while I am not an all-out extreme metal listener, I do listen to quite a bit of it at times. After a few years of it though, I find that many bands, new and old, start sounding alike. That si great, but it gets a bit tiring when you almost can't tell one band from another. So, wth so many hardcore, metalcore, death metal bands to choose from, I admit, it can become a blur of heavy music often

Then I tossed in this release by Divulgence, and they caught my ear as being a bit different. They bring a more classic thrash sound, with the many time changes, and at times almost a borderline prog-metal flavor (check out the track Rustic Skies). Yes, they are still definitely in the extreme metal style, reminding me at time of bands like August Burns Red. Divulgence have the vocals that still brutally assault the senses, but musically they have a tightness and clarity that feels more thrash and doesn’t continually explore the lower, deeper sounds that many extreme bands tend to live in.

Now, honestly, I wrote my review way before reading this editorial review on Amazon.com (which I just read today - that's the truth) - but it backs up and captures my feelings, so I thought I'd share it:

DIVULGENCE brings together the old and sacred elements of true heavy metal, forging a brand new monolith of riffage. This new beast created is a whirlwind of progressive thrash and aggressive metal powered by chugging riffs and memorable solos! Out of South Carolina, DIVULGENCE has been launching metal assaults on an unsuspecting underground since 2008 when all the members were still in High School! With the band's debut release on Bombworks Records, the members are bonded by the universal truth that heavy metal is the law, thereby unleashing the band's brand of ripping, epic thrash. Everything begins with the purity and aggression of the 80's Bay Area thrash scene, but DIVULGENCE further fuels its righteous onslaught with progressive metal done right. The songs are complex, unpredictable, and always interesting, but the 'progginess' never detracts from the pure metal insanity. The guitar riffs are brutal and uncompromising, but very sophisticated. And they strike a perfect balance between driving metal riffs and jaw-dropping complexity. DIVULGENCE combines the influences of Believer, Extol, Slayer, Tourniquet, Death, and Skeletonwitch while pushing the boundaries of creative, extreme metal with stunning results! The underground metal scene welcomes progressive thrash titans, DIVULGENCE with open arms!
